Wild swimming group experiences

Immerse yourself and connect with nature, bond with friends, and experience the intense joy of sea or river swimming with our expert-led group adventures.

Experienced wild swimmers can also enjoy one of these trips, taking the faff and stress out of finding new locations, and simply soaking up the joy the water brings.

As one happy swimmer said: ” I went on a swim adventure with Unity and found it invaluable. It was lovely to be taken to different swim spots by such a friendly person. All I had to do was have fun! No planning where to go and wondering how to find the best places. All of the swim spots were fabulous, and being with like-minded swimmers was great fun”.

About the Experience

My half and full day experiences are mini-adventures; meeting new people, visiting new places, venturing a little into the unknown, as nature can never be totally predictable. Bring your doggy friends along for the walk (and dip) so long as you are happy to keep them on a lead when livestock is out and about.

I will share my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to open doors into places you might not find without a guide, and lead you sensitively into nature’s secret swimming spots. These experiences are about the whole adventure, not just the swim.

  • Expert-guided wild swimming sessions.
  • Suitable for all skill levels: you will be asked to complete an experience questionnaire on booking, so I can tailor my approach to your needs and experience.
  • I can only take confident swimmers, but anyone new to wild swimming is welcome.
  • Stunning natural locations on Exmoor.
  • Wellness benefits, including improved circulation, stronger immunity, a sense of achievement, feelings of euphoria, and a deep connection with nature.

Pricing

It can be so annoying to explore a website but come away without knowing what the costs will be!

The thing is, every experience is different, and I want each one to be special for you and your friends or family. So they costed according to the number of people, their swimming experience, how long they want to swim, how far they want to walk, and how far I have to travel. Also, I can provide a full itinerary of activities including suggesting places to walk, eat, have a sauna, admire a sunrise or sunset.

So, you see, it’s not just “here’s a thing, it costs this much”.

All events that are already in the calendar (Dark Skies events for example) have priced tickets. Easy. Just book on.

What to expect (The experience)

We will speak before the event to run through any worries or questions.

I will greet you and provide a comprehensive briefing at the agreed rendezvous location.

Safety and kit check before we leave the meeting point.

Guided walk to the swimming area, moving at a gentle pace to enjoy all the beauty and nature around us.

I frequently pause to highlight small things of note, and to share any local knowledge relevant to the area.

Guided swim adventure

Each location has slightly different factors to consider. I will talk to you and support you to enter the water at your own pace. There is no jumping in going on here! Each person can remain in the water as long as they feel comfortable (although I will encourage you to breath through the first shock and stay in for more than a minute!) People can leave and re-enter the water as long as I am confident they are not becoming too cold unknowingly.

Getting changed quickly into lots of warm layers.

Even in Summer the water can definitely be chilly, and body temperature can fall. It’s no fun shivering after a swim, much better to pile on the jumpers then have to take them off a little later. Hat, scarf, warm socks and gloves all essential as well. Once dressed everyone can relax.

Post-swim reflection & refreshments.

One of the best bits! Everyone should bring a hot drink and a "shivery bite" to eat while we chat and laugh together in whichever beauty spot we have come to.

Return walk, relishing and reflecting on the experience.

Danes Brook mini-swoosh dip,1.5 hour walk and dip.

This is a special location on private land. Danes Brook is a tributary of the River Barle, fast flowing and home to a wide variety of wild-life. Even in the heat of Summer there is a small dipping pool with the current creating a little infinity pool. After rain this pool is bigger but remains safe and fun.

Anyone coming along to swim here gets to walk unspoilt footpaths with no risk of on-lookers, perhaps finishing the experience relaxing in a pristine meadow. Arrangements can be made for Tai Chi or yoga within this space.

East Lyn Wild Swimming

Longpool, East Lyn 4 Hour Swim-Walk
Swim-walk along River Lyn. From meeting at the village hall, we will walk to cross the river and follow it downstream for about a mile, dipping along the way near the village of Rockford. After continuing the walk we arrive  to swim in the re-knowned Longpool, a steep sided rock gorge, deep enough for jumping in, with a waterfall tumbling in. Once warm and dry from this we continue out of the steep valley, returning to Rockford. This quaint village has a friendly pub where we can pause before walking back up the river to our cars.

Some of the walking is fairly strenuous up and down hill, along uneven paths. Bring a packed lunch and drink.

Meet at Brendon Village Hall EX35 6PS

River Barle Wild Swimming

Cow Castle, River Barle 3 hour swim walk  in the heart of Exmoor.

Swim-walk along River Barle. Walk along the unspoilt River Barle Valley from Simonsbath, along a fairly level path, for around an hour, to reach a sunny grassy banked area of the river where you can safely swim, with easy access in and out. A perfect introduction to river dipping.

Here we can pause to picnic and take in the scenery before returning the same way.

Meet at  Exmoor National Park car park Simonsbath TA24 7SH

Porlock Wild Swimming

Woody Bay Sea Pool Dip 2 hour experience including walk down and back.

Woody Bay is a bit of an Exmoor secret. At low tide a tiny sea pool/large rock pool appears, partially constructed by the Victorians with concrete between huge boulders. It is big enough to swim in, so provides the perfect way to try a sea swim without the waves, but with a real sense of a real adventure. The bay has all the feel of a remote desert island, with a waterfall tumbling onto the beach.

We will meet above the bay to walk down a steep winding road to the beach, approx 25 minute walk. Here we will make our way carefully over rocks to the sea pool, where we will immerse ourselves in the sea water left by the tide. After our dip we will share a hot drink (provided), and at our leisure embark on the slow climb back to our cars.

For anyone with mobility difficulties we can shuttle to the bottom with car sharing to avoid steep climbs.

Meet at Sir Robert’s Path parking area off the Martinhoe Road.  ///drifters.hill.spinners

Porlock Weir harbour dip. 1 hour experience including a short walk to explore this quaint harbour village.

Porlock Weir is an absolute delight, even in Winter, with stunning views across the Vale of Porlock to Hurlstone Point and Selworthy Beacon. Anyone who has watched The Salt Path will spot several film locations that were used in this pretty harbour.

Depending on tide times, we will meet in the car park opposite The Ship pub, and walk across to Turkey Island, where we can change and where I will show you a safe place to enter the water, sheltered from the wind and waves. Swimming within the harbour markers makes for a challenge, but also ensures everyone’s safety.

After our dip we can either make use of one of the several pubs or cafes for a hot drink and snack, or bring your own drink to warm up after your sea swim. This location is totally tide dependent, contact me to discuss time and date options.
