Secret Tidal Pool Dip and Beach Exploring. Woody Bay near Lynton
Meet at 2pm at car park area on Sir Roberts Path ///drifters.hill.spinners
£35
Thursday 13th August 10.30am
Invisible from above, tucked behind a huge beach boulder, there is a tiny sea pool created by natural formations, and just a bit of Victorian construction mastery!
We will meet further up the cliff, and make our way gingerly towards this hidden gem. The beach is uneven and slippery, low tide revealing beds of sea lettuce and the trickle of a crystal clear stream. At the back of the bay a tiny waterfall plunges down, feeding the lush greenery, more reminiscent of Costa Rica than North Devon.
The little pool is suddenly revealed, and we will find a spot to change, ready for a supported swim in this utterly sheltered and calm sea pool. Big enough for a few strokes up and down, with a view of the open sea beyond. I will encourage you to remain in the cool water until you feel ready to stay all day; that’s when it is time to rise from the water and quickly change into warm clothes.
This bay also has a fascinating social history, with remains of a Victorian pier, visible from the far end of the bay.
Finally, tearing ourselves away from this special location, we return up the steep road to cars. Will you share this place with friends later, or Shhhhhhh…….keep it a Secret?
Porlock Weir Harbour Dip and Cafe Breakfast
Meet at the car park beside Porlock Weir Hotel
£20 (not including purchases from the cafe).
Contact me for possible dates
Porlock Weir is a special corner of Exmoor, with a quaint harbour, authentic locals, and a great selection of pubs, cafes, and moochy shops to browse. In the morning sunshine it is particularly glorious, and when the tide is high it is a perfect location for a sea dip within the harbour.
If you are hesitant sea swimmer I would love to guide you for a short morning swim, not breaking any records for distance or time in the water. We will enter carefully from stone steps, and swim with Hurlstone point and Selworthy Beacon as our backdrop, until heart and breathing rates drop. Then, emerging from the exhilaration of the sea, we can dress and quickly head into the Pieces of Eight cafe for hot drinks and breakfast as hearty, or not, as you prefer.
Elemental Exmoor Experience: Meadow Yoga, Ancient Woodland Wild Swimming and Replenishing Food (3.5 hour event)
West Hollowcombe Farm, Hawkridge Near Dulverton TA22 9QL
£60
Watch out for future dates for this event.
There is a meadow here that feels untouched by time. No roads, no cars, no distant hum of the modern world. Just open sky, long grass and the quiet presence of ancient woodland rising on all sides.
We begin here.
Barefoot in a truly wild meadow, yoga unfolds gently beneath the wide sky. Surrounded entirely by trees and birdsong, held in a natural amphitheatre of green, breath deepens and the body warms slowly. Movement is grounding and restorative, and the outside world falls away.
Your yoga experience will be led by Terry Bruce, an experienced yoga teacher of 17 years and longer time yoga student.
With her passion for creating yoga that is fun, relevant and a little irreverent, Terry will guide you through a practice that is inspired by the seasons and your surroundings.
Encouraged to adapt the yoga to suit you and your body – Terry offers variations that pique the interest of experienced practitioners, while still being supportive of people completely new to yoga.
To practice in wild spaces can enrich your experience of yoga and offers a whole different perspective.
Following our yoga session a soft path leads beneath moss covered trunks to a hidden plunge pool carved by centuries of flowing water. Here, the river gathers itself into a clear, cool basin, nature’s own jacuzzi. I will guide and support you to step into the current at your own pace. The cold is bright and electric, awakening the senses and sharpening awareness. It clears the mind and leaves you vividly present.
Afterwards, a fire waits in the open field. Blankets, warmth and simple nourishing food shared beside the chattering brook. Hot drinks in hand, cheeks glowing, stories unfolding easily. The ancient woodland stands quietly around us as smoke drifts upwards and the body settles into that beautiful mix of calm and exhilaration.
Small group. Secluded setting. Deep reset.
Choose between a morning awakening or a dusk settling.
